Resilience is our ability to cope with stressful circumstances.
In a corporate context, it isn’t always easy to get what we want. While we might prefer to be relaxed, in the professional environment, we have the obligation to respect deadlines and timings.
Although we enjoy spending time with our friends and family, at work, we are obliged to deal with people we don't always like. And while we enjoy the feeling of being in control of our day,
it isn’t uncommon for us to have to face changes and unforeseen events that are beyond our control.
We can hope that these circumstances change or simply try to avoid whatever generates these unpleasant feelings and sensations. We might even demand changes. In this case, we place control over how we feel, outside of ourselves. This means that when circumstances do not change, we feel stressed, unmotivated and unhappy.
Or we can own the problem. In this process, analyzing where the emotions come from helps to formulate a plan of action, and then decide whether it is worth executing it or not. If so, we need to change the circumstances. Otherwise, we have to accept them. Thus, only we will be able to influence our emotions and our feeling of helplessness will go away. The internal locus of control is directly linked to a higher level of resilience, improved productivity and better quality of life.
The ILC© framework was initially developed to train Special Forces to stay strong while deployed, but also to help undercover police officers stay undercover longer. These techniques were then used in the Penn Resilience Program, where the aim was to help children in areas where gangs were rampant regain their inner strength and complete their education. Due to the success of the program, it was then successfully adapted by universities and coaching companies to the corporate world in the United States.
CREST Europe adapted this program to a high-end European market. The big difference between ILC© and the techniques used in the USA, is that we do not only teach the techniques, but we also provide an adapted framework for each of our clients. It is tailor-made to meet their specific needs, which then allows them to easily deploy ILC© within their own company.
